Siargao is undeniably one of the most popular destinations in the Philippines. It’s where you can find the best beaches and perfect waves in the country. Fun fact: Cloud 9, Siargao’s premier surf spot, consistently makes it to the list of the world’s best waves. 

You shouldn't leave this island without trying its most popular sport: surfing! Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, it has world class waves that bring a different kind of thrill to every surfer. 

Best Time to Surf Siargao

You can go surfing all-year round, but the best time to surf is from July to December. Siargao’s peak surfing season is from September to November. The swelling of the waves and the wind conditions are most ideal during this period. New surfers should be extra caution when surfing strong waves.

Siargao Surf Spots for Different Levels

The surfing spots in Siargao which can cater to different surfer levels. We list down the surfing areas In order of difficulty: from beginner friendly to experts only.

Jacking Horse

Difficulty Level: Beginner - Intermediate

Jacking Horse’s right handed waves are manageable for beginners, which makes it a popular site for surf lessons. Intermediate surfers can surf the outer areas of Jacking Horse for a more challenging experience. Paddling back to the line up can be a bit of a challenge due to the strong current. Hire a surf instructor to help you out if you’d like.

Guiwan / Guian

Difficulty Level: Beginner - Intermediate

Guiwan is also known as “secret beach” because it takes some effort to find this surf spot. Better to ask a local or instructor to take you there. Guian’s waves are generally small but fast, making it ideal for newer surfers.

Since it’s right next to Cloud 9, Quiksilver can get pretty crowded too. Local surfers love to play around this area. The inner section is manageable for novices. At its peak, Quiksilver has heavy overhead waves that come in fast which are better suited for advanced levels.

Daku Island 

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

To access Daku Island, hire a boat from General Luna. The ride should only take 10-15 minutes. Your boatman will wait for you to finish then take you back. Daku’s break can easily become your favorite surf spot due to the gentle waves and picturesque scenery.


Difficulty Level: Intermediate - Expert

Stimpy’s is another spot that requires a short boat ride. Travel time is 10 minutes from Catangnan. Unlike the other surfing areas on our list, Stimpy’s has left handed waves. When the waves are small, it’s great for intermediate surfers. However, when the waves are big, it’s recommended for experts only. Stimpy’s is best surfed during low tide.

Cloud 9

Difficulty Level: Expert

Cloud 9 is the most famous surf break in all of Siargao. The waves are short but it barrels perfectly over your right. Seasoned surfers should be prepared for strong and fast waves. An annual “Cloud 9 Surfing Cup” is held during September, October, or November. The waves at Cloud 9 are superb during these months.
