Backpacking around the Philippines can be challenging because it’s an archipelago. There are a dozen transport options: airplanes, ferries, buses, jeeps, tricycles, and the list goes on! But sometimes it‘s more convenient to travel by sea instead of flying. Luckily for Cebu, there is a direct ferry route to Surigao City.
The travel time between the two islands is about 8 hours and 30 minutes. Due to the long travel time, carefully select the schedule and accommodation where you’ll be most at ease. To help you choose, we’ve compiled a list of all ferry providers that operate a Cebu to Surigao route and vice versa.

Via Starlite Ferries
Cebu to Surigao Starlite Ferry Schedule
Starlite Ferries has trips to Surigao that leaves at 9:00 PM from Sundays to Fridays. Make your way to Pier 3 along Manuel Quezon Boulevard in Cebu City—this is where you’ll be boarding. The expected time of arrival is 7:00 AM of the next day.
Surigao to Cebu Starlite Ferry Schedule
To get back to Cebu, you can also take the ferry from Monday to Saturday. Starlite Ferries depart Surigao’s port at 9:00 AM on those days. You’ll be in Cebu at around 7:00 PM in the evening.

There are different types of tickets that you can purchase. Make sure to bring your student ID, senior card, or PWD card to avail of discounts on your fare. Infants up to 3 years old travel for free. Check out the Starlite accommodations you can choose from below.
Starlite Ferry Recliner
This is the cheapest out of all the ticket types because you’ll only be occupying a chair for the whole journey. If you’re not used to sitting for extended periods of time, it might be wiser to choose a bed instead.

Starlite Ferry Economy Class
Economy tickets will get you a simple bunk bed in the most public sleeping area. There is no air conditioning, but you can rely on the sea breeze to keep you cool.

Buying the Tourist Class ticket will also get you a bunk bed, but this time the sleeping area has air conditioning.

Cabin accommodations can hold a maximum of either four or eight people in a shared room. Bunk beds have their own dividers for added privacy.

Starlite Ferry VIP Class
While all other tickets are priced per head, the VIP ticket is priced per room. With its own comfort room and TV, the private quarters can hold up to three people.

Cebu to Surigao Cokaliong Shipping Lines Schedule
Catch the Cokaliong ferries at Cebu City’s Pier 1. Daily trips are available at 7:00 PM. Keep in mind that you’ll reach Surigao at 3:30 AM of the following day.
Surigao to Cebu Cokaliong Shipping Lines Schedule
The schedule from Surigao to Cebu is also at 7:00 PM every day. Ride the ferry at the Surigao port. Expect a similar arrival time of 3:30 AM at Cebu City.

Cokaliong Shipping Economy Class
You’ll be assigned a bunk bed on the open-air decks of the ferry.

Cokaliong Shipping Tourist Class
If you prefer to have air conditioning, you’ll have to pay a little extra for it with the Tourist Class ticket.

Cokaliong Shipping Cabin Class
The Cabin is a shared room for six people. The sleeping area is in an enclosed room, separated from the majority of the passengers.

Cokaliong Shipping Suite Class
Suite rooms have their own comfort rooms and TV. You can rent a room good for either two or four people.

Cebu to Surigao Medallion Transport Schedule
As of writing, Medallion Transport has not yet resumed ferry operations for Cebu to Surigao and vice versa. The schedule and prices listed are from previous years.
The Cebu to Surigao route is available only on alternating days of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00 PM. The estimated arrival time in Surigao City is 4:30 AM.
Surigao to Cebu Medallion Transport Schedule
For your return ticket, please be advised that the schedules are reversed. You may board the Surigao to Cebu ferry every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 8:00 PM. The ferry will be docking in Cebu City at 4:30 AM the next day.
Cebu – Surigao Medallion Transport Rates
The Medallion Transport ferries are fairly modern. Passengers may access all the ship’s amenities like the information desk, chapel, restaurant, and canteen.
Medallion Transport Economy Class
Like previous Economy class tickets, this one is no different. For Economy ticket holders, they are entitled to one bed on the ship’s al fresco.
